"Dark Love" : Based on such films as Grosse Point and Payback, "Dark Love" was the story of one mans obsession with his wife and his devotion to "the job"; In which he chooses his career over love, but with a very sinister twist, he must kill her to save her from exposing what he does for a living. I admit I was wary of doing a student film that involved death, as often it is a cliche that a student film will in some way invlove young men, dressed in suits, carrying replica fire arms, a bag of "talcum powder" and pretending to be gangsters. Infact more often than not "the student film" relies on the hopefully shocking image of death and pseudo cool that comes from portraying gangsters, to compensate for a bad story line or lack of imagination. However in this piece we never showed the actual incident taking place, as it was refered to in the third person, therefore allowing the audience to decide what it meant to them, rather than force the issue. The project outline was to create a Film Noir inspired piece, one that applied the conventions of Noir and its aesthetics to demonstrate a technical understanding of the genre more than anything else.
