"Breaking Kayfabe" : "KAYFABE : a word to describe the wrestling industries policy on keeping their business a secret"

During the 8 months I spent working on this film I discovered a world not seen by most, the world of British Wrestling. Since its apparent death in the late 80's, when the "World of Sport" left our screens, British Wrestling seemed doomed to becoming a nostalgic memory. That of smokey community halls and seaside pavillions, packed with baying crowds of grannies, young children, drunken young men, marvelling at the spectacle of two larger than life characters competing in the "squared circle" for money, honour and the adulation of the crowd. Yet British Wrestling survives to this day, a sub-culture of fans and maverick companies that are spear heading the advance against the syndicated Americanised product that is so pervasive world wide. From Premier Promotions, hailing out of Brighton, a company that see's the sport as a family event and a wholesome night out, to the FWA and EWW that tour the country, putting on a show to satiate the blood thirsty desires of the kind of wreslting fan that like their wrestling extreme !

Always trying to relate back my love and respect for the sport, I travelled with the wrestlers, sharing some of their personal moments of reflection, their love of the business and their hunger to make it and be respected in their art form, physical theatre.

The film takes you on a tour of heroes, villains, pain and glory, breaking down barriers, people breaking the rules, BREAKING KAYFABE.
